The CT schools and training centers offer various types of training, depending on the student’s career goals and current education level. This type of program will prepare students to perform obstetrical, gynecological and vascular sonography procedures. Gateway Community College in New Haven offers such a program. Individuals who have already completed training may enroll in certificate programs to obtain specialized training in vascular or pediatric sonography. What Does Sonography Training Entail?
To successfully complete the training at any of the ultrasound technician schools in CT, a student must complete both the didactic and clinical portions of training. The didactic training involves classroom studies and lab courses. Some of the course topics include sonographic physics and instrumentation, clinical pathology, psychology, vascular sonography and GYN sonography. The clinical portion requires that students complete supervised internships and practicum courses where they obtain hands-on training performing ultrasound procedures. The student will gain experience in various areas of diagnostic medical sonography. Graduates of the training can sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exams.
What Type of Career Can Graduates of Ultrasound Technician Schools in CT Expect?
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, diagnostic medical sonographers have excellent career opportunities and are expected to see an employment growth of 46% between 2010 and 2020. Despite the small size of the state, CT had 840 diagnostic medical sonographers employed as of 2012.
